The Constellation

The Constellation VirgoThe constellation of Virgo is one of the oldest known constellations in the zodiac. Virgo is an absolutely huge constellation and the second largest in the sky. The Sun spends more time in Virgo than in any other constellation.

The only bright star in Virgo, and quite noticeable, is a star called Spica. Spica is also the origin of the English word, ”spike”, which means “ear of grain.”

Virgo is almost always portrayed holding either a staff or caduceus in one hand, especially when seen as the goddess of justice, and a spike of wheat in another, signifying the goddess of all earth.

"God created the stars and the heaven for more than the sake of beauty. He gave them to us for interpretation so that we may live a more productive life. Man is superior to the stars if he lives in the power of superior wisdom. Such a person, being the master over heaven and earth, by means of his will, is a Magus, and magic is not sorcery but supreme wisdom."
-- Paracelsus
